In the wake of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and the establishment of an interim government led by Army Chief Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Border Security Force (BSF) has heightened security across the entire 4,096-kilometer Indo-Bangladesh border. Sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that all BSF posts along the extensive border have been placed on “high alert.”
Officials noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is actively monitoring the evolving situation in Bangladesh. In response to the political upheaval, acting BSF Director General Daljit Chawdhary, accompanied by senior officials, has traveled to Kolkata to oversee and enhance border security measures.

According to an unnamed officer, BSF personnel have been instructed to closely monitor any unauthorized crossings from Bangladesh into India. There is a particular focus on preventing smugglers and terrorists from exploiting the current instability for illicit activities.
The BSF oversees 1,096 border outposts (BOPs) along the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB), which stretches through several Indian states: West Bengal (2,216.7 km), Assam (263 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Tripura (856 km), and Mizoram (318 km). The IBB is characterized by challenging terrain, including hills, rivers, and valleys, which complicates the task of maintaining rigorous surveillance.
