Zomato Launches New COD Feature Which Guarantees Exact Change For Customers

Zomato Launches New COD Feature Which Guarantees Exact Change For Customers

If you prefer paying for home deliveries with cash, you might frequently face the challenge of finding the exact amount for your order. If you pay a rounded amount, the delivery agent may not have change, forcing you to either forfeit the difference, go back inside to find the correct amount, or switch to an online payment method. To eliminate these inconveniences associated with Cash on Delivery (COD), Zomato has introduced a new, convenient feature.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal announced this new development in the app on his X handle on August 7, 2024. “For cash on delivery orders, finding exact change can sometimes be inconvenient,” he wrote, adding, “Starting today, our customers can pay delivery partners in cash, and ask for the balance amount to be added instantly to their Zomato Money account. This balance can be used towards future delivery orders or dining out.”

Goyal mentioned that the idea is inspired by a feature already offered by the online grocer BigBasket. “Thank you @bigbasket_com for the inspiration for this solution, and our delivery partners (three of them are working as product managers with us) for insisting that we develop this asap.”

The post includes a visual guide explaining that if you pay ₹600 in cash for an order of ₹530, the ₹70 balance will be added to your Zomato Money account.

X users are impressed with this new feature. Here are some of their reactions:

“So simple and nice feature. Learning from others too and acknowledging publicly. Good to see,” an X user commented.

Another said, “Build convenience for COD in India, and the battle is already half won.”

One wrote, “Nice to see acknowledge their competition’s Idea before implementing it..Much respect…and that’s how it should be done.”

Another stated, “Next step is to allow Zomato wallet usage on other websites and apps :)”
