Wrestler Vinesh Phogat has appealed her disqualification from the wrestling final at the 2024 Paris Olympics to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). This appeal follows her exclusion from the women’s 50kg category final due to missing her weight by just 100 grams.
Vinesh, who secured a 5-0 victory in her semi-final match, was the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final.
Vinesh is requesting to be awarded the silver medal. CAS has requested time until tomorrow morning to issue its final decision. If the ruling favors Vinesh, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will have to award a joint silver medal to her.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is an independent institution founded in 1984 to resolve sports-related disputes through arbitration or mediation.
