EC On J&K Elections: Commitment to Early Polls and Readiness Review

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar affirmed, “We are dedicated to holding elections as soon as possible. We are confident that the people of J&K will respond decisively to disruptive elements.”

Jammu and Kashmir has been without an elected government since June 2018, following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) withdrawal of support from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP)-led coalition.

On Thursday, a delegation from the Election Commission (EC) met with various political party representatives in Srinagar. This visit marks the beginning of a two-day trip to Jammu and Kashmir to assess the readiness for the first assembly elections in the Union Territory since 2014.
