Sweden-based Uyghur rights organization, The Svenska Uyghur Kommitten (SUK) famously called the Swedish Uyghur Committee, has called on the international community to address the geopolitical consequences of China’s actions in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region (XUAR).
In a post on ‘X,’ the committee urged Sweden and the global community to recognize China’s occupation of East Turkistan and the ongoing genocide against Uyghur Muslims and other Turkic people.

Further, it also emphasized that the genocide and occupation of East Turkistan by China are not isolated incidents.
It alleged that China’s attempts to expand its influence and control over Central Asia through its Belt and Road Initiative are masked as economic development. while in reality, they involve the eradication of an entire population.
Moreover, it also asserted by allowing China to act unchecked, the world is tacitly endorsing a new model of state behavior where power justifies actions, and genocidal policies are deemed acceptable under the guise of national security.
The SUK also declared that this issue transcends support for the East Turkistani people; it is about upholding the fundamental principles of the international system. Without decisive action, the global community risks undermining decades of progress in human rights and international cooperation.
Thus, they called on the Swedish government to lead international efforts against China’s human rights abuses, specifically the genocide in East Turkistan.

The committee asserted that Sweden, with its strong legacy of human rights advocacy, should spearhead actions to hold China accountable. These actions includes recognizing the genocide, forming a coalition of supportive nations, and pursuing sanctions, diplomatic isolation, and international legal actions against those responsible.
