Para Badminton Player Pramod Bhagat Suspended For Violating Anti-Doping Regulations, To Miss Paris Paralympic Game

Indian badminton player Pramod Bhagat has been suspended for 18 months for failing to provide whereabouts information and will miss the Paris Paralympic Games, announced the badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday.

Indian badminton player Pramod Bhagat has been suspended for 18 months for failing to provide whereabouts information and will miss the Paris Paralympic Games, announced the badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday.

Issuing a statement, BWF said ‘In 1 March 2024, the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) Anti-Doping Division found Bhagat in breach of the BWF anti-doping regulations for committing three whereabouts failures within 12 months.’

Earlier, the Paralympic player and SL3 athlete challenged this decision with the CAS Appeals Division. But on July 29, CAS appeals division rejected Bhagat’s appeal and upheld the CAS Anti-Doping Division’s decision from March 1, 2024.

Currently, his suspension period is now in effect.

Who Is Pramod Bhagat? 

For those unversed, Pramod Bhagat is a 36 year old Indian paralympic badminton player, who secured gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 category at the Tokyo Paralympics, defeating Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell in the final.

Moreover, he has also won six gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the World Championships. In 2019, he became the recipient of Arjuna Award.
