India’s 78th Independence Day: PM Modi Set To Give Speech; Where And When To Watch?

India is poised to celebrate its 78th Independence Day on August 15, 2024, with a series of significant events that will begin with Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisting the national flag at the historic Red Fort. This will be followed by his much-anticipated 11th consecutive Independence Day address, scheduled to start at 7:30 AM. The nation eagerly awaits this occasion, which serves as a moment to reflect on India’s journey since independence and to look forward to the future with renewed hope and commitment.

Where to Watch the Independence Day Celebrations

The entire nation will have the opportunity to witness the grand celebrations live. The event will be broadcast on Doordarshan, ensuring that viewers across the country can join in the festivities. For those who prefer to watch online, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) will stream the event live on its YouTube channel. Additionally, the live stream will be available on social media platforms, specifically on X (formerly known as Twitter), via the @PIB_India account and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) handle.

Theme of Independence Day 2024: “Viksit Bharat”

This year’s Independence Day is centered around the theme “Viksit Bharat,” which reflects the government’s ambitious vision of transforming India into a developed nation by the year 2047. The theme is not just a slogan but a roadmap that focuses on comprehensive development across various sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and technology. The goal is to enhance India’s global standing through sustained economic growth, social progress, and sustainable development practices.

On the morning of August 15, Prime Minister Modi’s address will resonate with the theme of “Viksit Bharat.” His speech is expected to highlight the nation’s past achievements, outline the government’s future goals and policies, and pay homage to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence. The address will serve as both a reflection and a call to action, urging every citizen to contribute to the nation’s progress.

A Grand Parade and Cultural Display

Following the Prime Minister’s address, the celebrations will continue with a grand parade at the Red Fort. This parade will be a vibrant display of India’s military strength, cultural diversity, and technological advancements. The event is not just a celebration of independence but a showcase of the country’s rich heritage and its strides in modern development.

As day turns to night, the festive atmosphere will be further enhanced as important buildings and monuments across the country are illuminated, adding a magical glow to the Independence Day celebrations.

“Har Ghar Tiranga” Campaign: A Symbol of Patriotism

In the lead-up to Independence Day, the government has launched the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, running from August 9 to August 15. This initiative is designed to instill a sense of patriotism and national pride among citizens by encouraging every Indian to hoist the national flag at their homes. Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, emphasized the importance of the campaign, stating, “The initiative aims to instill a spirit of patriotism and national pride among citizens by encouraging every Indian to hoist the national flag.”

The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign has been embraced by millions across the country, with the national flag flying high in cities, towns, and villages, symbolizing unity and the shared pride of a nation.

“Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” Campaign: A Green Tribute

In addition to the patriotic fervor, the Ministry of Defense has introduced the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, a nationwide tree-planting initiative launched by Prime Minister Modi on World Environment Day, June 5. The campaign aims to plant 1.5 million trees across India, involving the three armed services, as well as various organizations including the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), defence public sector units (PSUs), the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Sainik Schools, and ordnance factories.

This initiative serves as a tribute to the environment and reflects the nation’s commitment to sustainable development. The campaign not only enhances the green cover but also symbolizes the nurturing and protective spirit of the nation, much like the bond between a mother and her child.
