NCP leader and Maharashtra’s deputy CM Ajit Pawar recently claimed, that he made a mistake by fielding his wife, Sunetra Pawar, against his cousin, Supriya Sule, in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Talking to the Marathi news channel Jai Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar asserted, that Politics shouldn’t enter at home.

Speaking about fielding his wife against Sule, he said  ‘I love all my sisters. One shouldn’t allow politics to enter homes. I made a mistake in fielding Sunetra against my sister. This shouldn’t have happened. But the parliamentary board (of NCP) made a decision. Now I feel it was wrong.’

Earlier on July last year, Ajit Pawar and several other MLAs joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government. As a result, it caused a split within Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founded by Sharad Pawar.

Later at 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Sunetra Pawar contested the Baramati seat but was unsuccessful against the sitting NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, who is the daughter of Ajit Pawar’s uncle, Sharad Pawar. But, she was subsequently elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Meanwhile, ahead of Maharashtra’s assembly election, as a part of his mass outreach initiative, the Deputy Chief Minister has been promoting the government’s ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana,’ which offers financial support of ₹1,500 per month to women.
