In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. The partition of India in 1947, which took place under British rule, led to the creation of Pakistan as a Muslim-majority nation. This division caused the displacement of millions of people and resulted in widespread violence and the loss of many lives. On August 14, Pakistan also celebrates its Independence Day.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day:
In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that August 14 would be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in India. The partition of India by the British in 1947 led to the creation of Pakistan, displacing millions and causing large-scale riots that resulted in countless deaths. In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced, and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.”

Pakistan Independence Day:
The Indian Independence Act of 1947 established two sovereign nations, India and Pakistan. Pakistan’s founding father, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, in a historic radio address, declared, “August 15 is the birthday of the independent and sovereign state of Pakistan. It marks the fulfillment of the destiny of the Muslim nation, which made great sacrifices in the past few years to have its homeland.”

Haiti Earthquake:
In 2021, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 struck Haiti, reducing thousands of buildings to rubble. The disaster claimed over 2,200 lives and left more than 12,000 people injured.
