In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, “Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced, and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.”
Pakistan Independence Day:
The Indian Independence Act of 1947 established two sovereign nations, India and Pakistan. Pakistan’s founding father, Mohammed Ali Jinnah, in a historic radio address, declared, “August 15 is the birthday of the independent and sovereign state of Pakistan. It marks the fulfillment of the destiny of the Muslim nation, which made great sacrifices in the past few years to have its homeland.”
Haiti Earthquake:
In 2021, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 struck Haiti, reducing thousands of buildings to rubble. The disaster claimed over 2,200 lives and left more than 12,000 people injured.
