Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: BJP Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia Slams Mamata Government

Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: BJP Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia Slams Mamata Government

BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia has launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of failing to uphold the safety of women in the state. Bhatia’s remarks come in the wake of allegations that Banerjee attempted to shield those accused in a high-profile crime that has stunned the nation.

In a recent press briefing, Bhatia demanded Banerjee’s resignation, alleging that she did not fulfill her moral duties. “You (Banerjee) did not perform your moral duty. You should immediately resign,” Bhatia stated, criticizing her for allegedly trying to protect the accused in a case that has drawn significant public and judicial scrutiny.

Bhatia pointed to critical comments made by the Calcutta High Court regarding the initial handling of the case, which led to the transfer of the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He expressed confidence that the CBI will conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing that the guilty should face the maximum penalty.

According to Bhatia, local police initially informed the victim’s parents that their daughter was ill and later claimed she had committed suicide. He accused the police of failing to file a First Information Report (FIR) and of categorizing the case as an unnatural death, which he suggested was an attempt to downplay the crime.

Bhatia criticized Banerjee for her handling of the case, suggesting that her promise to transfer the investigation to the CBI if unresolved in a few days was a strategic move to obscure evidence. He argued that the first 48 hours are crucial in such investigations, and the delay could be detrimental to justice.

The BJP spokesperson also referenced a previous case involving a local Trinamool Congress strongman, alleging that Banerjee had similarly attempted to shield the accused. Bhatia condemned what he described as a broader collapse of law and order in West Bengal under Banerjee’s leadership, calling for immediate reforms and accountability.

As the controversy continues to unfold, the pressure mounts on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to address the allegations and restore public confidence in the state’s law enforcement and justice system.
