Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort on Thursday, marking the 11th consecutive time he has done so for Independence Day. The morning in Delhi was overcast, with a light drizzle.

After unfurling the Tricolour, the Prime Minister received a ‘Rashtriya Salute.’ The Punjab Regiment Military band, comprising one JCO and 25 Other Ranks, performed the National Anthem during the flag-hoisting and presented the ‘Rashtriya Salute,’ with Subedar Major Rajinder Singh conducting the band.

Earlier, PM Modi took to his social media platform X to extend his Independence Day wishes: “Independence Day greetings to my fellow Indians. Jai Hind!,” he posted on Thursday.

Upon arrival at the Red Fort, PM Modi was greeted by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane.

The Defence Secretary introduced the General Officer Commanding (GoC), Delhi Area Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, to the Prime Minister.

Lieutenant General Kumar then escorted PM Modi to the Saluting Base, where a combined Inter-Services and Delhi Police Guard presented a general salute. Subsequently, the Prime Minister inspected the Guard of Honour.

Following the flag hoisting, PM Modi delivered his customary address to the nation from the iconic monument’s ramparts.

Immediately after the National Flag was raised, flower petals were showered by two Advanced Light Helicopters Dhruv of the Indian Air Force in a Line Astern Formation. The helicopters were piloted by Wing Commander Amber Agarwal and Wing Commander Rahul Nainwal.

The theme of this year’s Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047,’ aimed at advancing the government’s mission to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
