‘Manmohan Singh’s Demise Great Loss’, Bhupesh Baghel Says Former PM Has Passed Away
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 in Delhi on Thursday, leaving the nation in deep sorrow. Known for his economic acumen and soft-spoken demeanor, Singh was widely respected for his contributions to India’s progress.
Singh’s health deteriorated on Thursday evening, and he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Sources said that he was taken to the emergency department of the hospital, but despite medical efforts, he passed away.
Manmohan Singh’s legacy is deeply aligned with his position as a reformist leader who played the most important role in the reformation of India’s modern economy. When he was Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996 under Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, he initiated huge economic reforms that liberalized India’s economy. They paved the way for the overall growth path of the nation and brought accolades both at home and outside the country.
Singh served as prime minister of India for ten years, leading the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) from 2004 through 2014. He will be remembered for numerous social and economic initiatives such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) besides the improvement of education and healthcare. The political situations were not that smooth throughout his tenure but still, one can say he is admired for his strong integrity and firm stand for administration.
