Bharat Progress Report: 3,500 Road Building Projects Including 217 Bridges Were Completed

In a monumental stride toward enhancing rural connectivity, nearly 3,500 projects, including 217 bridges, have been completed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) over the past two decades in Jammu and Kashmir, officials revealed. This extensive development has transformed the Union Territory’s rural infrastructure, aligning with the government’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”

Key Achievements of PMGSY

  • Projects Completed: Out of 3,742 sanctioned projects, 3,429, including 217 bridges, have been successfully implemented.
  • Road Length Added: 20,801 kilometers of all-weather roads were sanctioned, providing connectivity to remote habitations.
  • Population Impact: 2,140 habitations with populations above 250 (as per the 2001 Census) were targeted, with 2,129 already connected.
  • Financial Commitment: ₹12,650 crore has been spent on these transformative projects.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, Amit Shukla, chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess progress and expedite project completion. Specific instructions were issued to maintain quality standards, create durable infrastructure, and adhere to the ministry’s sunset dates for pending projects.

On-site reviews of critical road and bridge projects, such as the Kalas Kullian to Chak Harni Road and the Jagti Bamyal road bridge, underscored the government’s commitment to resolving challenges and ensuring timely completion. The focused implementation of PMGSY in the last five years has significantly improved access to remote and hilly areas, marking a paradigm shift in the socio-economic landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
