Forbes has released its much-anticipated 2024 ‘World’s Billionaires’ list, featuring a notable surge in the number of Indian billionaires. Among the 200 Indians listed, 25 newcomers have made their debut appearance on the prestigious roster of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
Leading the pack of newcomers is Renuka Jagtiani, the chairwoman and CEO of the Landmark Group, with a net worth of $4.8 billion. Landmark Group, a multinational consumer conglomerate headquartered in Dubai, was founded by her late husband, Micky Jagtiani, in May 2023.
Naresh Trehan, the founder and chairman of the Medanta hospital chain, joins the list with a net worth of $1.4 billion. Starting with a single hospital in Delhi in 2007, Trehan has expanded Medanta into a network of six hospitals across India.
Onkar Kanwar, chairman of Apollo Tyres, stands alongside Trehan with a net worth of $1.4 billion. Apollo Tyres is renowned for manufacturing tyres for various vehicles and has solidified its position in the industry under Kanwar’s leadership.
Kabir Mulchandani, proprietor of FIVE Holdings, a Dubai-based real estate firm specializing in luxury party hotels and resorts, boasts a net worth of $2 billion. Founded in 2011, FIVE Holdings plans to launch on the Dubai stock exchange in 2025.
The list of newcomers also includes Ajay Jaisinghani, Anil Gupta, Ramesh Kunhikannan, Mahaveer Prasad Taparia, Vijay Agarwal, Girdhari Jaisinghani, Motilal Oswal, Kalpana Parekh, Lalit Khaitan, Nikhil Merchant, Pradeep Rathod, Shivratan Taparia, Irfan Razack, Shashishekar Pandit, Subbamma Jasti, Noaman Razack, Rezwan Razack, Shivratan Agarwal, Ramesh Jaisinghani, Alpana Dangi, and Naresh Jain, representing a diverse range of industries and endeavours.
At the top of the Indian billionaire list sits Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, with a staggering net worth of $116 billion. Following closely are Gautam Adani with $84 billion and Shiv Nadar with $36.9 billion, securing the second and third positions respectively among Indian billionaires. Ambani notably became the first Asian to enter the esteemed $100-billion club and ranks ninth globally in terms of wealth.
