Microsoft To Shut Down Paint 3D On Windows – Here’s Why

Microsoft is planning to retire its Paint 3D app, bringing an end to a notable chapter in 3D modeling and editing for Windows users. Originally launched in 2016 as part of the Windows 10 Creators Update, Paint 3D will no longer be available for download from the Microsoft Store after the specified date.

 Here’s Why:

  • End of Service: A banner within Paint 3D has started appearing, informing users of the app’s imminent shutdown and the halt of future updates. This development was initially flagged by an X user with a history of Windows-related leaks.
  • User Reception: Despite its launch with much anticipation, Paint 3D struggled to gain traction among users who preferred the simplicity of the classic Paint application. By 2021, Microsoft had already removed Paint 3D from the default installation list in Windows 10, making it available only through the Microsoft Store.
  • Strategic Shift: Microsoft’s move to discontinue Paint 3D signals a strategic shift towards focusing on more widely used tools. Recent updates to the classic Paint app have introduced new features such as enhanced pen and eraser options, underscoring Microsoft’s commitment to improving its long-standing software.
  • Future Use: After November 4, users who have Paint 3D installed will be able to continue using it, though they will no longer receive updates or support. Microsoft suggests exploring other advanced 3D modeling software for those interested in continuing with 3D design.

This decision reflects Microsoft’s intention to streamline its creative software portfolio, focusing on tools that cater to a larger audience while leaving specialized 3D modeling to external applications.
