Uber Fare Spike, Ride From Airport To Destination Shocks Internet

Bengaluru is notorious for its congested roads and lengthy traffic jams, leading to a scarcity of public transportation options. Consequently, many individuals rely on private cab services provided by companies like Ola and Uber. Recently, a user known as X was taken aback by the fare quoted by Uber for a trip from the airport to Electronic City.

Sharing the screenshot of the steep price on a microblogging platform, user Rajesh Bhattad expressed disbelief at Uber charging nearly ₹2,000 for the journey from Kempegowda International Airport to the southeastern suburb of Bengaluru.

“The Uber pricing past midnight from Bengaluru Airport to HSR,” Mr. Bhattad commented in the post’s caption. He also expressed gratitude to BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation), indicating that he opted for a bus journey home instead of taking the cab.

The screenshot, notably captured after midnight, when cab services typically apply nighttime surcharges or implement surge pricing, revealed the cost of various Uber ride options. It indicated that an Uber Go trip to his destination would amount to ₹1,931, while fares for Uber Go Sedan and Uber Premier stood at ₹1,846. Furthermore, the fare escalated to ₹2,495 for an Uber XL ride.

The pricing sparked discussion on social media platforms, with one user recommending opting for the Vayu Vajra bus to reach HSR Layout. In response, Mr. Bhattad confirmed that he had taken the bus, costing ₹265 per person.

He mentioned the challenge of arranging another Uber for the last mile connectivity. Many users chimed in, expressing agreement that app-based cab fares have become exorbitant. Additionally, one individual proposed that fares could decrease by 30 to 50% if the pickup point for cabs is located outside the Airport zone.
