Zepto to Relocate Headquarters from Mumbai to Bengaluru to Boost Tech Presence

Quick commerce startup Zepto is set to move its headquarters from Powai in Mumbai to Sarjapur in Bengaluru, as reported by Moneycontrol. This strategic relocation aims to consolidate operations and enhance its presence in India’s tech hub.

Currently, Zepto, which offers delivery services for groceries, fruits, vegetables, electronics, and other household items, manages its business functions in Mumbai while its tech and product teams are based in Bengaluru. The company plans to unite its 1,700-1,800 employees under one roof, with the relocation expected to be completed by late November or early December. Employees will be required to move, and Zepto will cover the associated costs, estimated between ₹3-4 crore. The move is anticipated to result in savings of around ₹40-50 lakh per month in rent.

Zepto is in the process of securing a large property in the Sarjapur, HSR, or Bellandur areas for the new headquarters. Of the company’s total workforce, approximately 1,000 employees are currently based in Mumbai, 400 in Bengaluru, and 300 in other locations. The majority of Mumbai-based employees are reportedly willing to relocate, with only a small number potentially unable to make the move.

The relocation aligns with Zepto’s growth plans and recent funding successes, aiming to attract and retain top talent in Bengaluru. This trend of moving headquarters to Bengaluru is echoed by notable entrepreneurs such as Bhavish Aggarwal of Ola, Gaurav Munjal of Unacademy, Kunal Shah of CRED, and Jitendra Gupta of Jupiter, who have also made similar moves in recent years.
