Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal on March 19, introduced the ‘Pure Veg Mode’ and ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ on the Zomato platform, catering specifically to customers with a 100% vegetarian preference. This feature will be gradually rolled out across India.
Goyal revealed details about Zomato’s latest feature on X. He tweeted that this initiative was launched based on feedback from customers who prefer vegetarian food.
India has the largest percentage of vegetarians in the world, and one of the most important feedback we’ve gotten from them is that they are very particular about how their food is cooked, and how their food is handled.

The Pure Veg Mode will exclusively display restaurants serving pure vegetarian dishes. Moreover, orders placed through this mode will be handled and delivered by Zomato’s Pure Veg Fleet, which uses green delivery boxes.

Goyal also shared a photo of himself and Zomato’s food delivery CEO Rakesh Ranjan wearing the distinctive green jackets worn by the delivery agents of Zomato’s newly established Pure Veg Fleet. Additionally, he personally took part in delivering a few orders on the first day of the launch.
He also added that the Pure Veg Mode would comprise a selection of restaurants exclusively offering pure vegetarian cuisine, while excluding any restaurants that serve non-vegetarian dishes.
Pure Veg Mode will consist of a curation of restaurants that serve only pure vegetarian food, and will exclude all restaurants which serve any non-veg food item.

Our dedicated Pure Veg Fleet will only serve orders from these pure veg restaurants. This means that a non-veg meal, or even a veg meal served by a non-veg restaurant will never go inside the green delivery box meant for our Pure Veg Fleet. pic.twitter.com/x9H7cAbgFX

He further added on X, “Please note that this Pure Veg Mode, or the Pure Veg Fleet doesn’t serve or alienate any religious, or political preference.”
The Zomato founder also mentioned his intentions to expand and introduce more fleets to cater to the specialized requirements of customers in the future.
The CEO quoted on X, “In the future, we plan to add more specialised fleets for special customer needs. For example, there’s a special cake delivery fleet coming up with hydraulic balancers which prevent your cake from getting smudged during delivery.”
