Rajasthan’s Organ Transplant Racket Busted: Three Arrested for Issuing Fake Certificates

Rajasthan’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has made significant strides in dismantling an organ transplant racket, resulting in the arrest of three individuals involved in issuing counterfeit no-objection certificates (NOCs) in exchange for monetary gain.

The crackdown targeted a scheme where a staff member at Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh Hospital purportedly facilitated the issuance of fake certificates for organ transplants. According to the ACB, these fraudulent documents were provided to foreign nationals seeking medical treatment in Jaipur.

The investigation has widened its scope to include twelve hospitals within Rajasthan and several others in Mumbai suspected of complicity in the illicit scheme.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (ACB) Ravi disclosed that the arrests were made following a sting operation at SMS Hospital, where the accused were apprehended while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70,000 for an NOC.

Among those arrested are a staff member from SMS Hospital, along with organ transplant coordinators affiliated with EHCC Hospital and Fortis Hospital.

Prompt action from the state government ensued, resulting in the suspension of SMS Hospital’s assistant administrative officer, Gaurav Singh, following his arrest by the ACB.

The investigation was initiated based on complaints indicating collusion between SMS Hospital personnel and middlemen in the issuance of counterfeit NOCs for organ transplants without proper authorization.

ACB operatives, upon verifying the complaint, conducted a raid at SMS Hospital, leading to the arrest of Gaurav Singh and Anil Joshi, the organ transplant coordinator at EHCC Hospital, in the act of accepting bribes. Three counterfeit NOCs were seized during the operation.

Additionally, Vinod, an organ transplant coordinator affiliated with Fortis Hospital in Jaipur, was also apprehended by the ACB team.

The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the extent of the fraud and to probe the involvement of two hospitals in Jaipur. Authorities have conducted searches at Fortis and EHCC hospitals as part of the ongoing probe into the case.
