Real-Life Bunty and Babli: Delhi Couple Arrested for Car Theft in Janak Puri

In a cinematic twist, a couple in Delhi, identified as Sandeep Munna (27) and Reena (27), was apprehended by the police on Tuesday for stealing a car in a manner reminiscent of the iconic film characters Bunty and Babli. The couple, residents of Palam, Delhi, allegedly drew inspiration from the Bollywood movie “Bunty Aur Babli.”

The incident unfolded on February 22 at 10:46 PM when a person reported to the police that his vehicle had been taken away by a couple he had given a lift to. According to the complaint received by Janak Puri Police, the complainant had offered a lift to the unknown couple, momentarily left his car, and returned to find it missing along with his laptop.

Following the complaint, the police registered a case under IPC section 379 and 34, and a specialized team was formed to investigate. Utilizing CCTV footage, call detail records (CDRs), and digital footprints, the team apprehended Sandeep Munna and recovered the stolen car at his instance.

During the course of the investigation, Sandeep Munna revealed that Reena was his accomplice in the crime. The police subsequently arrested Reena, and the stolen laptop was also recovered.

The accused couple, residing in Uttam Nagar in West Delhi, admitted to living together and revealed that their motive for the theft was financial desperation.
