The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has once again claimed the top spot as the best law university in India, according to the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024. With an impressive score of 83.83, this marks the seventh consecutive year that NLSIU Bengaluru has held the number one position in the country.
Following closely behind, National Law University (NLU) Delhi secured the second spot with a score of 77.48. NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, maintained its third position with a score of 77.05, while The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, held steady in fourth place with a score of 76.39.

This year, the NIRF introduced new categories, ranking 50 State Public Universities and an additional 50 institutions within the 51-100 rank band. Additionally, only three institutions received rankings in both the Open Universities and Skill Universities categories.
The NIRF ranking framework evaluates institutions based on five broad parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcome (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PR). These rankings provide a comprehensive assessment of each institution’s overall performance, offering a detailed view of their strengths in the field of legal education.
