The Ministry of Education has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, showcasing the top higher educational institutions across various categories. The Ministry of Education has unveiled the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, marking its ninth edition. This year’s rankings feature a significant update with the introduction of three new categories: Open Universities, Skill Universities, and state-funded Government Universities. Additionally, the AICTE chairperson, Anil Sahasrabudhe, announced plans to include ‘sustainability rankings’ starting next year. The NIRF framework assesses institutions based on five key parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources; Research and Professional Practice; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity; and Perception.

NIRF Rankings 2024: Top Institutes in Universities category:
- Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore – Maintaining its position at the top for the third consecutive year.
- Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi – Retaining its second place.
- Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi – Holding steady at third.

Notable changes in the university rankings include:

- Aligarh Muslim University moving up to eighth place from ninth.
