The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the final results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2024 on Friday. The updated results show that 17 students have achieved the top rank with a perfect score of 720 marks and a pass percentile of 99.9992714.
Initially, 67 students shared the All India Rank 1. However, after the withdrawal of grace marks and a retest of 1,563 students, the number of top scorers was reduced to 17. The Supreme Court’s recent decision to withdraw grace marks for a disputed Physics question also contributed to the change in rankings.
This year, about 24,06,079 candidates registered for the NEET UG exam. Out of these, 23,33,297 appeared for the exam, while 72,782 did not.
Most of the top scorers are from Rajasthan and Maharashtra. The top four ranks are held by students from Rajasthan, and the next three top scorers are from Maharashtra. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh each have two top scorers, while Bihar, Punjab, West Bengal, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala each have one.
Approximately 11,65,334 candidates scored between 720 and 162 marks.
Among the total registrations, 10,29,198 were male, 13,76,863 were female, and 18 were from the third gender. Out of these, 9,98,205 male candidates and 13,34,940 female candidates appeared for the exam. Approximately 5,46,566 male candidates and 7,69,277 female candidates qualified. Of the 18 third-gender candidates, 17 appeared for the exam, and 10 qualified.
Most candidates registered for the NEET UG exam in English, with 18,92,413 choosing this language. The second most popular language was Hindi, with 3,57,924 registrations.
The results were announced following a Supreme Court directive to review the marks for a Physics question, which the NTA initially claimed had two correct answers.
