Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 Live Updates: 61% Voter Turnout Recorded Till 5 PM

The Haryana assembly elections have wrapped up, featuring key contenders such as the BJP, Congress, the INLD-BSP alliance, the JJP-Azad Samaj Party alliance, and the Aam Aadmi Party. Prominent candidates include Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, BJP leaders Anil Vij and OP Dhankar, Congress figures Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Vinesh Phogat, INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala, and JJP’s Dushyant Chautala.

In total, 1,031 candidates are vying for seats, with 101 women and 464 independent candidates among them. Voting concluded at 6 PM, and the counting of votes is set for October 8.

The BJP is facing robust opposition as it seeks a third consecutive term, while the Congress aims to reclaim power after a decade in the opposition.

Polls were held in 90 constituencies across the state from 7 AM to 6 PM, with over 2 crore voters expected to participate, including 8,821 centenarians, at 20,632 polling stations.

The Congress hopes to leverage its strong performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Their manifesto includes seven key promises, such as a legal commitment to minimum support prices (MSPs), conducting a caste survey, and offering a monthly allowance of ₹2,000 to women.

Rahul Gandhi has led the Congress campaign, focusing on significant issues like the Agniveer scheme, farmers’ protests, and the wrestlers’ agitation against the BJP.

In 2014, buoyed by the Modi wave, the BJP secured 47 seats, marking its first government in Haryana with Manohar Lal Khattar as chief minister.

They might win a few elections, but they won’t regain power. Rahul Gandhi’s comments are both objectionable and disappointing.
