‘Modi must resign’ Congress’s First Reaction To Lok Sabha Results

Exit polls had earlier painted a rosy picture for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with predictions of comfortably surpassing their 2019 tally of 353 seats. Some exit polls even speculated that the alliance could breach the 400-mark, further fueling the BJP's aspirations.

‘Modi must resign’ Congress’s First Reaction To Lok Sabha Results

In a dramatic turn of events following the surprising Lok Sabha election results, the Congress party has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding his resignation. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh minced no words as he asserted that PM Modi must take moral responsibility for the BJP’s potential loss of seats and step down from his post.

In a strongly worded post on a social media platform, Jairam Ramesh emphasized that the better-than-expected performance of the INDIA bloc signifies a clear indication that it is time for Narendra Modi to relinquish his position as the Prime Minister and transition into a former prime minister. He underscored the message of the election, stating, “He used to pretend that he was extraordinary. Now it has been proved that the outgoing Prime Minister is going to become former. Take moral responsibility and resign.”

The Election Commission of India’s data reveals that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading in 236 seats, falling short of the majority mark of 272 in the Lok Sabha. In contrast, the Congress party is leading in 99 seats, while other key players like the Samajwadi Party and the Trinamool Congress are leading in 37 and 31 seats respectively. The emergence of the INDIA bloc as a significant contender, expected to secure over 200 seats according to EC data and TV reports, has added a new dimension to the political landscape.

Despite initial setbacks, PM Modi is now leading in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency. However, the BJP’s ambition of securing a third consecutive term in power seems challenged by the unexpected electoral dynamics. The party had set a lofty target of winning 400 Lok Sabha seats, but the current numbers suggest a more challenging path ahead.

Exit polls had earlier painted a rosy picture for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), with predictions of comfortably surpassing their 2019 tally of 353 seats. Some exit polls even speculated that the alliance could breach the 400-mark, further fueling the BJP’s aspirations.

The Congress party’s call for PM Modi’s resignation underscores the high-stakes nature of Indian politics and the intense competition surrounding the elections. As the results continue to unfold, the political landscape is poised for further upheaval, with implications that could shape the future trajectory of the nation.
