Voter Turnout: Tripura Tops With 53.04 Percent

The first phase of the General Elections in India witnessed a remarkable surge in voter turnout across various states, with Tripura leading at 53.04 percent by 1 pm, according to data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Joining Tripura in high voter turnout percentages are other northeastern states like Meghalaya, recording 48.91 percent, and Manipur with 46.92 percent. West Bengal follows closely behind Tripura, experiencing a significant turnout of 50.96 percent.

In contrast, the lowest turnout by 1 pm has been recorded in Lakshadweep at 29.91 percent.

Providing a comprehensive breakdown of voting percentages for states participating in the first phase of elections, Andaman and Nicobar Islands reported 35.70 percent, Arunachal Pradesh 37.39 percent, Assam 45.12 percent, Bihar 32.41 percent, Chhattisgarh 42.57 percent, Jammu and Kashmir 43.11 percent, Maharashtra 32.36 percent, and Madhya Pradesh 44.43 percent.

Mizoram recorded 39.71 percent, Nagaland 43.62 percent, Puducherry 44.95 percent, Rajasthan 33.73 percent, Sikkim 36.82 percent, Tamil Nadu 39.51 percent, and Uttar Pradesh 36.96 percent, with Uttarakhand at 37.33 percent.

The voter turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections exceeded 67 percent, indicating a robust engagement in the democratic process.

The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, closely monitored the polling progress during Phase 1 of the General Elections at the ECI Headquarters.

Voting for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 commenced on Friday across 102 parliamentary constituencies spread over 21 states and Union Territories, marking the beginning of the mega seven-phase electoral exercise that started at 7:00 am.

Voters exercised their franchise until 6:00 pm. According to data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), a total of 1.87 lakh polling stations were set up, with 18 lakh personnel deployed across the 102 constituencies going to the polls.

Subsequent phases of the elections are scheduled for April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, aligning with the comprehensive nature of the electoral process.

The last general elections in 2019 were also conducted in seven phases, reflecting the structured approach adopted by the electoral authorities to ensure a fair and inclusive democratic exercise.
