Birthday Special: From Fame Gurukul to winning National award, a look at Arijit Singh’s journey

Arijit Singh’s quick ascent to success is nothing short of an inspirational story, having begun his career at the age of 18 with reality shows before becoming an instant phenomenon with “Tum Hi Ho” in 2011. Arijit’s life story is evidence that hard work pays off, contrary to what is often believed. Let’s have a look at the challenges the singer overcame in his career to become famous because he will turn 35 on Tuesday.

He began his musical career in 2005, when he was 18 years old, with the reality show “Fame Gurukul.” Javed Akhtar, a lyricist, and the late vocalists KK and Shankar Mahadevan served as the show’s judges. He placed sixth but didn’t take home the prize.

However, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a director, heard Arijit’s voice while he was appearing on this reality show and offered to work with him. And he maintained his word by giving Arijit the chance to sing “Yoon Shabnami” in the Saawariya movie, however his rendition was never used. Finally, in 2011, he made his Bollywood playback singing debut with the song “Phir Mohabbat” from the film “Murder 2,” which starred Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez.

The love theme from “Aashiqui 2,” written by Mithoon and performed by Arijit, is credited with giving rise to the star Arijit. The ‘aashiqs’, or people in love, who are waiting for their feelings to be reciprocated, frequently turn to this heartbreaking ballad. For him, there has been no turning back since that point.

Arijit is the only Bollywood vocalist to have won the Filmfare Awards five times straight from 2016 to 2020, second only to Kumar Sanu in this regard. In 2016, he received his first Filmfare honour.

The singer reached a professional apex in 2019 when he won the National Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song “Binte Dil” from the movie “Padmaavat.” ‘Kabira’, ‘Samjhawan’, ‘Gerua’, ‘Channa Mereya’, ‘Nashe Si Chadh Gayi’, ‘Ae Dil Hai’ Mushkil’, ‘Muskurane’, and his most recent composition, ‘Deva Deva’ are just a few of Arijit’s soulful and upbeat songs.
