‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ Day 1 Box Office Collection: Ajay Devgn’s Film Opens On a Disastrous Note But Beats ‘Sarfira’

Ajay Devgn’s ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’, which hit screens on August 2, has opened to a below-average response at the domestic box office. The film also received negative reviews with critics ripping apart the “outdated” storyline. It released in theatres alongside the Janhvi Kapoor-led Ulajh.

‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’, starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, has failed to attract audiences on the opening day. The romantic drama collected Rs 2.90 crore (nett) on the first day and received negative reviews.

The film had failed to create a buzz among fans as the promotional campaign was not up to the mark. It also faced competition from Janhvi Kapoor’s ‘Ulajh’ and the Hollywood biggie ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’. The superhero flick collected nearly Rs 4 crore on its second Friday.

Despite the lacklustre response, ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ has managed to outperform Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’. The Sudha Kongara-directed film had netted Rs 2.50 crore on its opening day.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, ‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ is a romantic thriller that centres on the relationship between two lovers who reunite years after parting ways under unusual circumstances. It features Ajay Devgn and Tabu as the lead pair. The Chandini Bar actor had recently said that she took up the film as it is an “age-appropriate” romantic drama. She also said that the audience is “invested” in seeing her with Ajay Devgn.

“I think the audience is invested in me and Ajay as a couple on screen. Whether it is ‘Vijaypath’ or ‘Bholaa’ or ‘De De Pyaar De’, the audience has seen our comfort with each other, and they like that chemistry. So that’s what makes it more interesting for them. And that’s what makes them want to watch us together on screen. They think that, you know, they want us together.

The film’s cast includes Jimmy Sheirgill, Saiee Manjrekar and Shantanu Maheshwari.

‘Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha’ opened in theatrs on August 2 and is currently playing in theatres.
