BTS member Suga, known offstage as Min Yoongi, has issued a heartfelt apology to his fans following an incident involving drunk driving. Currently serving in the South Korean military, Suga shared the details of the incident in a lengthy note on Weverse, expressing deep regret and remorse.
Incident Details
In his note, Suga explained that the incident occurred while he was returning home late at night on his electric scooter after consuming alcohol. He admitted to violating traffic laws and recounted how he fell near his house while parking the scooter. A nearby police officer conducted a breathalyzer test, leading to the revocation of his license and a fine.
Suga’s Apology
“Hello, this is Suga. With a heavy heart, I must express my deepest apologies for my actions. After drinking at dinner last night, I rode home on an electric kickboard, unaware that it was illegal to do so under the influence of alcohol, given the short distance,” Suga wrote.
He continued, “While setting up my electric scooter at my front door, I fell. A police officer conducted a breathalyzer test, resulting in the revocation of my license and a fine. Although no one was injured and no property was damaged, I bow my head in apology. I take full responsibility, and there are no excuses for my actions.”
Suga concluded his note by apologizing to everyone affected by his careless behavior, vowing to be more mindful in the future to prevent similar incidents.
BigHit Music’s Statement
BTS’s agency, BigHit Music, also issued an apology regarding the incident. “We regretfully inform you of the incident involving BTS member Suga’s electric scooter. On Tuesday night (June 6), Suga was returning home on his electric scooter after drinking, wearing a helmet. He fell while parking the scooter and, following a sobriety test by nearby police officers, received a ticket and had his license revoked. There were no injuries or property damage, and he was escorted home by the police,” the statement read.
The agency further mentioned, “We apologize for the disappointment caused by this artist’s inappropriate behavior. As a social service worker, Suga will face appropriate disciplinary action from his employer. We will take measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Thank you.”
