Charles Dierkop, Renowned Actor from ‘The Sting,’ Passes Away at 87

According to Deadline, American actor Charles Dierkop passed away on Sunday. He was best known for his roles in “The Sting,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” and “Police Woman.” He was eighty-seven. Dierkop also got pneumonia and suffered a heart attack. The character actor, who was born in Wisconsin, made his acting debut in “The Hustler” opposite Paul Newman without receiving credit. He costarred with him in the 1969 movie “Butch Cassidy” as Flat Nose Curry and in the 1973 Best Picture Oscar winner “The Sting” as a bodyguard.

He had steady work in television from shows like “Star Trek,” “Batman,” “Adam-12,” “It Takes a Thief,” “Love,” “American Style,” “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea,” “Lost in Space,” “The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.,” “Mannix,” “Kung Fu,” “The F.B.I.,” and “The Andy Griffith Show.” Dierkop costarred with Angie Dickinson as Detective Pete Royston on NBC’s ‘Police Woman,’ a spinoff of ‘Police Story,’ running from 1974 to 1978. He made guest appearances on a number of well-known television programs in the 1980s and 1990s, including “MacGyver,” “T.J. Hooker,” “Simon & Simon,” “The Fall Guy,” and “Matt Houston.” In the 2000s, Dierkop also starred in a number of B films. He was last seen in the 2018 motion picture “Heaven & Hell.” Dierkop’s daughter Lynn is his surviving relative.
