Celebrity chef Kunal Kapur has been granted a divorce by the Delhi High Court, citing cruelty exhibited by his estranged wife. The court’s decision stemmed from observations that his wife’s conduct lacked dignity and empathy towards him.
Mr. Kapur accused his wife of disrespect and humiliation towards him, particularly about his parents. Renowned for his role as a judge on the popular television show “Master Chef,” Mr. Kapur claimed that his wife consistently failed to show respect to his parents and subjected him to public embarrassment.
In response, his wife refuted these allegations, asserting that they were fabricated attempts to mislead the court. She maintained that she endeavoured to maintain a loving and loyal relationship with Mr Kapur, denying any accusations of disrespect or mistreatment.
The court, in its assessment, highlighted the lack of dignity and empathy displayed by Mr Kapur’s wife towards him. Such behaviour, the court asserted, undermines the sanctity of marriage and renders living together untenable.
Examining the allegations made by Mr. Kapur’s wife, the court pointed out Mr. Kapur’s rapid professional success, which it deemed indicative of his dedication and hard work. This success cast doubt on the credibility of the accusations levelled against him.
Ultimately, the court concluded that the allegations lacked substantiation and were aimed at tarnishing Mr. Kapur’s reputation. Such baseless claims, the court determined, constitute cruelty and can significantly damage one’s reputation.
The estranged couple, who married in April 2008 and have a son born in 2012, await further legal proceedings regarding their divorce.
