The Oscars are on the horizon and comedian Conan O’Brien has been chosen to host the awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed. This is the first time the comedian will take on the stage to host the Oscar Awards, which is no doubt the biggest night on the US entertainment calendar. “America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars,” O’Brien said.
Academy Praises O’Brien’s Expertise and Humor
“[O’Brien] is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of the film with his brilliant humour, his love of movies, and his live TV expertise,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang said in a statement. “His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best – honour the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”
Conan’s Impressive Career in Entertainment
The chosen host, who is 61 years of age, is an Emmy-award winning writer and producer, who is also the host of popular late-night television show “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and “Conan.” He is also being credited for writing for The Simpsons, which is another American classic, and Saturday Night Live. Conan is not new to the hosting business and has hosted the Emmy Awards, the MTV Movie Awards, and has emceed twice the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He currently runs a podcast called Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.
Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney Decline Hosting Offer
According to media sources, it has come to light that the four-time Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel and comedian John Mulaney declined the offer to host the Oscars.
