Food Square has become one of India’s most prestigious and expensive gourmet destinations, catering to the elite and affluent. In 2023, it replaced Foodhall, emerging as the new leader in gourmet retailing in Mumbai.
According to its official website, Food Square occupies over 25,000 square feet of retail space on the renowned Linking Road in Mumbai. The Santacruz property, spread across four stories, is well-known and needs no further introduction.
Since its launch in 2023, the store has garnered significant attention on YouTube, with numerous videos featuring eye-catching titles such as “Spending Rs. 10,000 in a Celebrity Shopping Mall,” “The Most Expensive Store in India,” and “Luxury Grocery Shopping at Mumbai’s Most Expensive Store.”
Adding to the list of influencers who have highlighted Food Square is Hamza Khan.
In early August 2024, Hamza Khan shared a video on Instagram, where he delved into Mumbai’s iconic supermarket, Food Square. He captured viewers’ attention with the intriguing hook, “Kya aapko pata hain Ambanis ka ration kaha se aata hain,” referencing India’s wealthiest family, the Ambanis. This mention was enough to ignite interest, as people are always curious about the lives of the Ambani family.
In the video, Hamza Khan is seen exploring the interior of Food Square, giving his audience a glimpse of what the upscale supermarket offers. He reveals the prices of various products and shares insights about some of the premium items available at Food Square.
Hamza was clearly astonished by the high prices, which are attributed to the fact that many of the products are imported. Additionally, the super-premium quality of the groceries justifies the steep price tags.
Hamza Khan captioned his video with the line, “Ambanis ka ration bhi yaha se aata hain,” which helped his Instagram reel gain significant traction.
In just six days, Hamza’s video went viral, amassing close to 10 million views on Instagram. While he claimed that the Ambanis and many Bollywood celebrities purchase their groceries from Food Square, this assertion lacks official confirmation and appears to be speculative, based on the store’s reputation as Mumbai’s most expensive supermarket.
However, multiple reports have noted that several television actors and models have been spotted shopping at Food Square for groceries and other essentials. Despite this, it’s premature to conclusively state that the Ambanis shop there.
