Actors often face scrutiny on social media for their looks and fashion. Recently, Dr. Raj Kanodia, a well-known surgeon, attracted attention on Reddit for liking a post that claimed he performed rhinoplasty on Janhvi Kapoor. Khloe Kardashian had previously stated that Dr. Kanodia did her rhinoplasty.
Some users questioned whether this was a violation of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), which generally prohibits healthcare providers from sharing patient information without consent, except with authorized representatives.
The Reddit post asked, “Dr. Raj Kanodia was at the Ambani wedding. Khloe admitted he did her rhinoplasty, but he liked a comment confirming he did Janhvi’s. Isn’t this a HIPAA violation?” A user responded, “Lawyers might argue that a ‘like’ doesn’t necessarily mean confirmation. However, plastic surgery offices often ask patients to sign waivers for using their photos. It does look bad though.” Another user added, “It might not be a violation, but it certainly looks unprofessional. I wouldn’t trust a doctor who interacts with comments like this.”
Others discussed the implications: “HIPAA does apply to non-US citizens receiving care in the US, and if Janhvi signed a consent form for disclosure, it might not be a HIPAA violation.” Another user noted, “Even under HIPAA, if a patient voluntarily shares information or consents to it being shared, no violation occurs. The same principle applies to doctor-patient confidentiality.”
