Hollywood actress and producer Eva Longoria recently shared that she and her family no longer live in the United States, calling it a ‘dystopian’ country. She shared that now her family divide their time between Mexico and Spain.
In an interview with ‘Marie Claire’ France for its November cover story, Longoria stated that the the country’s “changing vibe” since the COVID-19 pandemic, high taxes in California, and the challenges of homelessness, are all the reasons behind her relocation.
“Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes… it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now,” she said.
Moreover, Longoria emphasised how she was not happy with the re-election of Donald Trump. Longoria was a vocal supporter and even campaigned for Kamala Harris and Democratic Party during US elections, focusing on mobilizing Latino and female voters.
She described Trump’s first election win in 2016 as a turning point that shook her belief in political meritocracy. “The shocking part is not that he won,” she added, “It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”
Longoria was grateful that she was able to relocate, considering it as a “privilege,” emphasizing that many Americans lack the resources to do so. “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country,” she said, expressing anxiety over the future direction of the United States.
Longoria, a ninth-generation Texan, relocated to California in her twenties and rose to fame as Gabrielle Solis on the popular television show Desperate Housewives. In recent years, her television career has grown considerably, and she now hosts CNN’s Searching for Mexico and Searching for Spain.
Longoria’s family, including her husband José “Pepe” Bastón, president of Mexican broadcaster Televisa, and their six-year-old son Santiago, have also embraced the move.
