Looks like Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming project, “Ramayana,” has hit a snag even before production commences. According to a recent report from a publication, producer Madhu Mantena has withdrawn from the film. Allegedly, the project, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, was co-produced by Allu Aravind and Madhu Mantena, but the latter has opted out of his producing responsibilities.
The exact reason behind Madhu Mantena’s purported decision remains undisclosed at present. Additionally, it’s worth noting that the production team has yet to officially confirm Mantena’s departure.
Meanwhile, Namit Malhotra, CEO of DNEG—an acclaimed VFX company with an Oscar-winning portfolio—is set to join the production of “Ramayana.” DNEG has previously contributed to numerous blockbuster films, including “Oppenheimer,” “Ex Machina,” “Interstellar,” “Dune,” and “First Man,” among others.
In Nitesh Tiwari’s rendition of “Ramayana,” Ranbir Kapoor is slated to portray the role of Ram, while Sai Pallavi has been cast as Sita. Initially, Alia Bhatt was considered for the role of Sita, but due to scheduling conflicts, she withdrew from the project. Additionally, there are talks of KGF star Yash portraying Ravana, with Sunny Deol reportedly set to portray Hanuman. Bobby Deol and Vijay Sethupathi are also reportedly under consideration for the roles of Kumbhakarna and Vibhashana, respectively.
Recent reports suggested that Amitabh Bachchan has been confirmed for the role of King Dashrath in the film. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding this development thus far.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Ranbir would undergo voice and diction training for his role. A source earlier mentioned that Ranbir possesses a distinct baritone and delivery style, which the director intends to differentiate for his portrayal of Ram in “Ramayana.” The shooting for Nitesh Tiwari’s “Ramayana” is expected to commence in summer of 2024.
