Jennifer Aniston Criticizes JD Vance Over Past Comments on Childless Women

Jennifer Aniston has publicly criticized JD Vance for comments he made in the past about women without children. Aniston took to her Instagram stories to share a screenshot of Vance’s appearance on Tucker Carlson’s former Fox News show, expressing her disbelief with the caption, “I truly can’t believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States.”

The comments in question date back to a 2021 appearance when Vance, then a candidate for the Ohio Senate, told Carlson that the United States was being run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.” Vance’s remarks, which resurfaced and gained traction on social media this week, also included statements targeting prominent Democratic figures. “It’s just a basic fact — you look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC — the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?”

Aniston, who has been open about her personal struggles with fertility, responded strongly to Vance’s comments. In her post, she addressed his stance on reproductive rights, writing, “All I can say is… Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too.”

Reproductive health is expected to be a key issue in the upcoming election, with many women in Hollywood, including Aniston, speaking out in support of reproductive rights. Vice President Kamala Harris has been a prominent voice on abortion and female health care within the Biden administration, garnering support from various public figures.

In defense of her brother, Lindsay Lewis, Vance’s sister, issued a statement highlighting the influence of strong women in Vance’s life. “JD is a testament to the women in his life, and the attacks from the media and Democrats that assume anything otherwise is vile,” Lewis said, noting that he was raised by strong women and is married to “an incredibly strong woman in Usha.”

Aniston’s criticism of Vance stems from her personal experiences with the media and public scrutiny over her own childlessness. She has frequently faced tabloid speculation about her relationships and lack of children. In a rare and candid interview with Allure in 2022, Aniston shared her struggles with fertility and her experience with IVF, revealing the emotional toll it took on her. “I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,” Aniston said, reflecting on her 30s and 40s. “All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed.”

She also addressed the painful media narrative that painted her as selfish for focusing on her career. “God forbid a woman is successful and doesn’t have a child,” she said. “And the reason my husband left me, why we broke up and ended our marriage, was because I wouldn’t give him a kid. It was absolute lies.”

On Wednesday, Aniston further signaled her support for Harris by reposting a 2018 video of Harris questioning then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on abortion rights, originally shared by actress Allison Janney.
