Lily Gladstone joins a list of actors, including Denzel Washington (Fences), Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation), Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), and Viola Davis twice (for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and The Help), who won the SAG Award but lost at the Oscars. After her loss, Killers of the Flower Moon director Martin Scorsese was seen consoling Gladstone with a warm hug.
The disappointment for Gladstone was just one of the setbacks for Killers of the Flower Moon at the Oscars. Despite entering the night with 10 nominations, the film failed to secure any awards.

Bradley Cooper’s Maestro, a portrayal of Leonard Bernstein, also left empty-handed, despite seven nominations. Speculation had suggested a potential win in the makeup and hairstyling category, but that honour, along with several other craft prizes, went to Poor Things.
After the notable absence of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie in the best director and actress categories at previous Oscars, some anticipated success for Barbie, directed by Gerwig, with a best picture win or an adapted screenplay prize.
However, the film fell short, missing out on victories in six of its seven nominated categories (two of which were in the same category), concluding the awards season on a disappointing note.
In a surprising turn of events in the animated feature category, Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron claimed victory over the predicted winner Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Despite the Sony animated film’s numerous precursor awards, including the Annie Awards and the Producers Guild award for animated feature, and its predecessor winning best animated feature at the 2019 Oscars, Miyazaki’s film emerged triumphant.
