Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’ Sees Strong Weekend Box Office Performance

“Laapataa Ladies,” the latest offering from Kiran Rao, has witnessed a remarkable surge in box office numbers during its debut weekend. Starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava in pivotal roles, the comedy-drama has garnered significant attention and praise from audiences and critics alike.

According to a report by Sacnilk, on its third day in theaters, “Laapataa Ladies” raked in an impressive ₹1.80 crore. This robust performance brings the film’s total domestic box office collection to ₹4 crore, marking a promising start for the movie.

The film follows the tale of two young brides who find themselves lost on a train, navigating through various challenges and discovering themselves along the way. Apart from the talented trio of Goel, Ranta, and Shrivastava, the cast includes Chhaya Kadam, Durgesh Kumar, Satendra Soni, and Hemant Soni.

Backed by the combined efforts of Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande, “Laapataa Ladies” has struck a chord with audiences, evident from its strong word-of-mouth promotion and escalating box office figures.

Renowned Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh highlighted the film’s success on social media, noting a remarkable 37.25% jump in collections on day 2. Adarsh emphasized the film’s strategic release in select shows and limited screens, targeting major centers, which has proven to be a successful approach.

Critics have also lauded the film’s narrative and performances. In an NDTV review, Saibal Chatterjee awarded “Laapataa Ladies” a commendable 3.5 out of 5 stars, praising its ability to tackle serious issues while maintaining an entertaining narrative. Chatterjee particularly praised the performances of the lead actors, highlighting their nuanced portrayals and captivating screen presence.

With its engaging storyline, strong performances, and positive reception, “Laapataa Ladies” is poised to continue its successful run at the box office, reaffirming the adage that content is indeed king in the realm of cinema.
