Dhanush’s ‘Raayan’, which opened in theatres on July 26, has emerged as a massive commercial success despite releasing alongside the Hollywood biggie ‘Deadpool And Wolverine’. The action drama has raked in Rs 2 crore* (nett) at the domestic box office on Wednesday (August 7)
‘Raayan’ Beats ‘Indian 2’ At Domestic Box Office
‘Raayan’, directed by and starring Dhanush, remains the top choice of the Tamil audience even in its second week. The film netted Rs 2 on Wednesday. It has collected Rs 82.25 crore in 13 days, which is quite an achievement given the fact that it received mixed reviews and faced competition from the Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool And Wolverine. Its stellar performance means that it has beaten ‘Indian 2’ at the box office.

The Kamal Haasan-led film netted around Rs 81 crore at the domestic box office in its full run. The vigilante thriller had started on a good note but it fizzled out after the weekend as the word of mouth wasn’t up to the mark.
What’s ‘Raayan’ About?
Directed by and starring Dhanush, ‘Raayan’ is an action-thriller about a fast-food restaurant owner as he tries to punish those who harmed his family. The film features Aparna Balamurali, Dushara Vijayan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, and Sundeep Kishan. Marking Dhanush’s 50th lead role, the movie is produced by Kalanithi Maran with music composed by AR Rahman. ‘Raayan’ is Dhanush’s second film as a director.
He had previously wielded the microphone for ‘Pa Paandi’, which impressed the audience. The National Award winner, meanwhile, is going through a busy phase on the work front. ‘D’ will soon be seen in ‘Kubera’, which marks his first collaboration with Rashmika Mandanna.
It also features veteran Telugu star Nagarjuna in a key role. Dhanush also has a film based on the life of Ilaiyaraaja in his kitty. The film will be directed by Arun Matheswaran, best known for his work on ‘Captain Miller’. Ilaiyaraaja will compose music for the biographical drama. Moreover, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are expected to have cameos in the eagerly-awaited film. ‘Raayan’, meanwhile, was released on July 26 and is currently playing in theatres.
