Rajinikanth’s ‘Thalaivar 171’ to Go on Floors in June, Says Director Lokesh Kanagaraj

Rajinikanth will soon be teaming up with Lokesh Kanagaraj for ‘Thalaivar 171’, one of the most ambitious films of the director’s career. The film has created a buzz among fans as it will reportedly feature the mass hero in a new avatar. During a promotional event for ‘Inimel’, his new music video, the ‘Kaithi’ helmer revealed that pre-production on ‘Thalaivar 171’ is underway and the film will go on the floors in June. 

Lokesh further added that production work on the film will go on for over a year. He also confirmed that Kaithi 2 will begin only after he wraps up ‘Thalaivar 171’. 

“The pre-production work is still going on. The film will go on floors in June. The entire process will take around 1 to 1 and a half years. One month after the completion of ‘Thalaivar 171’, we will begin ‘Kaithi 2’ with Karthi. So, the work has been going on,” he said. 

‘Thalaivar 171’ will be produced under Sun Pictures. 

Lokesh, meanwhile, has garnered attention with ‘Inimel’. The video features him and  Shruti Haasan. His latest directorial venture ‘Leo’ hit screens in 2023 and did fairly well at the box office. Vijay, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja and Trisha headlined the cast. 

Rajinikanth, on the other hand delivered a blockbuster with ‘Jailer’ The action-comedy featured Superstar in the role of a retired cop and impressed critics with its stylish presentation. Its cast included Shiva Rajkumar, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Sunil, Tamannaah, and Ramya Krishnan. The Sivaji actor is working on ‘Vettaiyan’, directed by TJ Gnanavel of ‘Jay Bhim’ fame. It also features Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, and Fahadh Faasil in key roles

‘Vettaiyan’ is expected to hit screens later this year.
