When Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, hit theatres in December 2023, it made headlines for various reasons. While some praised the directorial work of Sandeep Reddy Vanga, others criticized it for being toxic. Rashmika faced trolling after the film’s release, particularly regarding her Karva Chauth scene dialogue, which some alleged was unclear. After four months of silence, Rashmika has finally addressed the trolling she endured.
During a recent appearance on Neha Dhupia’s show, Rashmika responded to trolls and shed light on the effort put into the Karva Chauth scene. She revealed that the 9-minute-long sequence received applause from everyone on set, indicating it was executed brilliantly. She continued, “I don’t appreciate people trolling women about their bodies… as long as that’s not the case and they’re critiquing my films, the cinema, or my performance… I know how the performance turned out. I did it five months ago.”

Regarding the Karwa Chauth scene in Animal, Rashmika explained, “The Karwa Chauth scene which was a nine-minute long scene and while doing the scene, people on the set loved it. They were clapping and felt it was done so well. But the trailer came out and I was trolled so much for that one particular dialogue from the same scene. So I thought, I did the 9-minute long scene and everyone on the set liked it, but people now are trolling me for the same. So am I living in a bubble? Like are people not gonna like this scene? Because you know what you’ve shot, but people don’t know. People just know that like those 10 seconds. So I don’t want to ever be in my life where I’m living in a bubble. I need to be on the ground. I need to talk to people. I need to know what’s really going on,” the actress added.
In a candid conversation, Rashmika defended the film, emphasizing that authenticity is integral to it. She supported the film’s portrayal, stating, “It is a film about this character, and he is just messed up in his head. He will go to any length for his father, and he is also transitioning. If you want the film to be raw, real and correct, this is how the film is going to be.” Animal proved to be a box office success, grossing over Rs 900 crore worldwide. On the work front, Rashmika’s upcoming projects include Pushpa 2- The Rule with Allu Arjun, Kubera with Dhanush, Chhava with Vicky Kaushal, Rainbow, and The Girlfriend.
