Shakira is one of the most popular pop icons of today’s generation. The talented Colombian artist needs no introduction and is easily recognizable worldwide. It’s likely that most people have listened to at least one of her hit songs like Hips Don’t Lie and Whenever, Wherever at some point, making her one of the highest-selling artists. While fans have their own interpretations of her music, this is the first time Shakira has shared her own perspective on her discography.
In a recent Hot Ones episode, Shakira opened up about finding some of her old work a bit cringeworthy. The 47-year-old crooner spoke on a recent First We Feast’s Hot Ones and discussed what she now finds embarrassing about her older material. Although she boldly stated her evolution as a performer, she revealed that she used to overdo her distinctive yodeling on early songs.
When asked by host Sean Evans what makes her cringe when listening to old albums, Shakira responded that she thinks she exaggerated the cries in her voice, even breaking into a yodel and chuckling at herself, saying, “I think it was exaggerated. A little baroque. You know? Too much, Shakira.” She added that after having kids, her voice has become thicker and more rounded. She admitted her choices have changed as she’s evolved as a woman.
Shakira recently released her 12th studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, on March 22, which includes popular songs like Te Felicito with Rauw Alejandro, Monotonía with Ozuna, Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53 with Bizarrap, and TQG with Karol G, among others.
