Puneeth Rajkumar, the resident ‘Powerstar’ of Kannada cinema, died in 2021 following a heart attack. His death left a void in the industry. On Sunday (March 17), Shiva Rajkumar took to Instagram to remember his brother on his 49th birth anniversary. The ‘Hattrick Hero’ penned a note about his legacy and highlighted that Appu was a youth icon who touched lives with his work.
He then touched upon his bond with his late brother and recalled how Puneeth would often fall asleep on his chest. Shivanna also said that the future mass hero held his hand while learning how to walk.

Puneeth Rajkumar, born in 1975, was Dr Rajkumar’s youngest son. He made his big screen debut as a leading man with ‘Appu’, which hit screens in 2002. He then consolidated his standing in the industry with his work in films such as ‘Arasu’, ‘Anna Bond’, ‘Hudugaru’, and ‘Raajakumara’.
Puneeth tragically passed away in 2021 at the age of 46. ‘James’, his final feature film in a lead role,opened in theatres in 2022 and emerged as a massive success. He was also seen with Amoghavarsha JS in the docu-drama ‘Gandhada Gudi’.
Coming back to Shiva Rajkumar, he received rave reviews for his work in ‘Ghost’. The actioner featured him in a fierce new avatar and hi screens last year. The flick featured National Award winner Anupam Kher in a key role and marked his Sandalwood debut.
Shiva Rajkumar was last seen in ‘Karataka Damanaka’. The film featured Priya Anand as the leading lady and hit screens on March 8. Shivanna will next be seen in ‘Bhairathi Ranagal’, a prequel to ‘Mufti’.
