The Election Commission of India recently announced the dates for the General Elections 2024, setting the stage for the ‘dance of democracy’. The Telugu states will vote on May 13. Additionally, the assembly elections for Andhra Pradesh will be held on the same date. This may spell trouble for Prabhas’ ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, which is slated to hit screens on May 9.
Trade tracker Ramesh Bala feels the makers of the pan-India film should push the release date by “at least a week” given the elections. He added that they can choose May 17 as the new slot.
“They should postpone the release date, It makes no sense to release it so close to the elections. Everyone is focused on the polling process. Also, at times, fans are involved with party cadres. Moreover, there are usually restrictions on cash movement. So theate owners may face problems. They need to delay it by at least a week. This way they will get a better date and still benefit from the holidays,” he told News X.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’, directed by Nag Ashwin, is a sci-fi action drama set in a futuristic world. It features Prabhas as Bhairava and marks his collaboration with the ‘Mahanati’ director. The film revolves around the conflict between ‘light’ and ‘darkness’. It stars Deepika Padukone as the leading lady and is her Telugu debut. The cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani.
This will be Prabhas’ first release after Salaar, which emerged as a blockbuster in December 2023. The actioner was directed by Prashanth Neel of ‘KGF’ fame and revolved around the bond between two friends. The cast included Shruti Haasan, Prithviraj, Bobby Simha, and Sriya Reddy.
Prabhas currently has ‘Kanappa’ and Sandeep Vanga’s ‘Spirit’ in his kitty. He is also working on Maruthi’s ‘The Raja Saab’. Additionally, Darling is expected to begin work on ‘Salaar 2’ in the coming months.
