Sydney Sweeney has dedicated her entire life to pursuing a successful acting career, but recently she’s been dealing with the downside of fame, especially the growing attention from paparazzi who are eager to capture Hollywood’s latest “It” girl.
In a recent interview with Glamour, the Anyone But You star revealed that photographers came to her new home in Florida while she was there with her family, trying to provoke her into coming outside in a bikini for a photo.
Sydney Sweeney Calls Out Paparazzi
“They said, ‘If you tell her to just come outside in a bikini, I’ll take pictures and then I’ll leave you alone,’” the 27-year-old shared with Glamour. To make matters worse, some on social media accused her of calling the paparazzi herself.
“Why would I call the paparazzi to take pictures of me at my own house when my baby cousins and family are there and I’m in my backyard? Why would I ever want that?” she questioned during the interview.
Sweeney further explained that she has photos showing paparazzi in “kayaks hiding in bushes in the ocean,” and that they arrived as early as 8 a.m., refusing to leave until late in the afternoon. “I should be able to be in my home and feel comfortable and safe,” she said.
And it’s not just the presence of paparazzi that bothers her.
“When those photos go out, then my actual safety is at risk,” she explained, referring to the paparazzi pictures taken at her home. “Everyone knows where I am. Now there’s boats that go by, and I literally hear them say, ‘This is Sydney Sweeney’s house.’ It becomes a star tour in my front yard.”
Sydney Sweeney Claims Paparazzi Yelled At Her Family
Sweeney reiterated that the paparazzi shouted at her family, urging them to get her to come outside in a bikini (Sydney Sweeney Instagram).
Sweeney, known for being very private, maintains strong connections with her childhood friends and keeps her relationship with businessman Jonathan Davino under the radar, to the point where many forgot about him amid false dating rumors involving her and Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell.
“I have my family, and my cousins are my best friends,” she shared. “I have my team and a handful of best friends. It’s very small.”
She noted that “most of them — actually, all of them — are not in the industry,” except for Euphoria co-star Maude Apatow. “It’s a very lonely industry,” she remarked.
Sweeney also opened up in the interview about the struggles she faced before achieving success, including being bullied at school, her parents losing “everything” as they drove back and forth from their Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho home to Los Angeles for her auditions, and her parents’ eventual divorce.
“There was a moment where I stopped wanting to go home, which made me really sad because I felt like a failure,” she admitted. “I knew that I could never actually fail because, I mean, on a very broad scale, my family did lose everything.”
She added, “They did get a divorce. Whether or not that was because of coming here, it definitely was a catalyst for it. So, I knew I had to succeed in some capacity so that it wasn’t for nothing.”
Regarding the public’s fixation on her body, Sweeney shared that she is working on embracing it. She mentioned that it “means a lot to her” that fans have reached out to say they feel more comfortable with their own bodies because of her.
“I really believe in empowering others and feeling powerful with your body and embracing your sexuality,” she said.
