Telugu filmmaker Surya Kiran died in Chennai on March 11 at the age of 48. He was suffering from Jaundice and had been undergoing treatment for the same at a hospital. Suresh, a noted PRO in the Telugu film industry, confirmed the news of his demise and offered his condolences to his family.

Surya Kiran made his big screen debut as a child artist with the Malayalam film ‘Snehikkan Oru Pennu’, which hit screens in 1978. He then went on to act in over 200 films, carving a niche for himself in the industry. His credits include ‘Mouna Geethangal’, ‘Neethiyin Marupakkam’, ‘Ranga’, and ‘Geraftaar’.
Surya Kiran made his directorial debut with ‘Satyam’, which was released in 2003. The film was produced under the Annapurna Studios banner and featured Sumanth in the lead. The romantic drama emerged as a commercial success and ran for 50 days in 163 centres.
Post this, Surya Kiran wielded the microphone for ‘Dhana 51’, his second film with Sumanth. He then collaborated with Jagapati Babu for ‘Brahmastram’. He also directed ‘Raju Bhai’ and ‘Chapter 6’.
In 2020, he participated in ‘Bigg Boss Telugu season 4’ but didn’t find much success as he became the first contestant to be eliminated. He was married to actress Kalyani but they parted ways. Surya’s sister Sujitha is also an actress. She has appeared in films such as ‘Roja’, ‘Hatya’, and ‘Thevar Magan’.
