Hollywood actor Tom Cruise thrilled a crowd of 71,500 at the Paris 2024 Olympics closing ceremony by rappelling down from the roof of the Stade de France.
During the event, Cruise was caught off guard when a woman unexpectedly grabbed him and kissed him on the cheek as he was surrounded by fans eager for selfies following his dramatic entrance.
A widely shared video on social media shows the woman pulling Cruise in for a kiss while filming the moment on her phone. The Top Gun: Maverick star seemed visibly surprised by the sudden gesture.
As the video spread online, many social media users criticized the woman’s behavior, prompting a discussion about how the situation might have been perceived differently if the roles were reversed.
A X user commented on the video, “Would hate to see what would happen if the roles were reversed (sic).” Another stated, “Did she ask for consent? (sic).”
An individual opined, “The amount of people laughing at Tom Cruise getting kissed while working at the Olympics is disgusting. If that was a female celebrity there’d be an uproar. Like him or not, that shouldn’t have happened! (sic).”
One user also wrote, “The worst kind of people in audiences. Absolute zero respect for personal space. If it had been a man with a woman, people would already be looking for all his information to burn him alive (sic).” Another user added, “Cringe. If a man did that to a female celebrity, there would be questions…(sic).” Several others found the woman’s act “disrespectful.”
In terms of his upcoming projects, Tom Cruise is set to appear in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two, scheduled for release in 2025.
