Vikrant Massey Receives Threats Over ‘The Sabarmati Report’ Film Based on Godhra Train Incident, Here’s WHAT The Actor Has To Say

Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey has revealed he has been receiving threats on social media due to his involvement in the upcoming film ‘The Sabarmati Report’, which centers around the controversial Godhra train burning incident in 2002.

Set for release on November 15, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ aims to offer a factual portrayal of the tragic event and its aftermath, according to the filmmakers.

Massey, known for his recent success in 12th Fail, plays a journalist investigating the 2002 incident. Speaking at the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai, he shared, “Yes, I have been receiving threats. But we are artists, and we tell stories. This film is purely based on facts.” Addressing concerns about the film’s sensitivity, he stated, “It is something I am dealing with, and we as a team collectively are dealing with.”

Directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Ektaa R Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Amul V Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, ‘The Sabarmati Report’ also stars Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra. According to Kapoor, the film is “inspired by true events” and is meant to focus on “the genesis” of the incident. She added, “We are telling the genesis of this first facet without undermining the other facets. Unfortunately, this facet, how it all started, has not been reported enough.”

Responding to questions about whether the film might instigate communal tensions, Kapoor described ‘The Sabarmati Report’ as a “social commentary.” She emphasized her intent to approach the subject respectfully, stating, “I will never make a comment about any religion because I’m a Hindu, and Hindu means you are secular.” She further clarified that no political influence or support was sought in making the film. “I have not spoken to any politician or taken support of anyone,” she said.

Massey noted his long professional relationship with Kapoor, calling ‘The Sabarmati Report’ especially meaningful to him. Drawing parallels between the Godhra train incident and the September 11 attacks in the United States, he remarked, “This was our 9/11 which changed our socio-political fabric overnight.”

The 2002 Godhra train burning incident, in which 59 passengers were killed when the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express was set on fire, led to communal violence in Gujarat that claimed over 1,000 lives, predominantly Muslims.
