Mukesh Khanna, known for his roles in popular TV shows like Shaktimaan and Mahabharat, recently expressed strong disapproval of Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Akshay Kumar for endorsing pan masala products. Khanna revealed that he even reprimanded Kumar for promoting gutka, pointing out that it was ironic for someone who is health-conscious.
Khanna criticized the massive amounts of money spent on these advertisements, which feature vibrant visuals and promote the idea of a “kesariya zubaan” (saffron-colored tongue), all while encouraging the consumption of gutka.
Speaking to an entertainment news portal, Mukesh said, “Mere ko kaho toh, pakadke maarna chaiye. I even scolded Akshay Kumar He says, ‘Aadab,’ and then there’s Ajay Devgn, and now even Shah Rukh Khan has started. They spend crores of rupees on these ads, and what are they teaching people?”
He added, “They say, ‘We only promote paan masala, not tobacco,’ but it’s the same thing—gutka is being sold under the same brand name. Everyone knew that the Kingfisher bottle ad was actually promoting Kingfisher beer. This is called deceptive advertising.”
Further, Mukesh questioned the actors and asked, “Why do these people do this? Do they not have enough money? I’ve spoken up about this before; I said, ‘Don’t do it, sir. You already have plenty of money.'”
He emphasized that he has never endorsed cigarettes, paan, or any harmful products throughout his career, despite being offered substantial sums of money. Khanna urged fellow actors to consider their influence on the public, stating, “People look up to you and imitate you. Please don’t do this. Your actions have a huge impact; if you do it, others will think it’s okay for them to do it too.”
